How Jalang’o and Ruto Elevated the Majembe Vs. Mbavu Boxing Match

What started as an online feud between two entertainers has escalated into one of Kenya’s most talked-about events, with the State House now involved.
In a clip that has flooded timelines, President William Ruto playfully distanced himself from his usual political “mawe” catchphrases before handing full support to the Majembe vs Mbavu The Destroyer fight, elevating the showdown from a street trend to a national entertainment spectacle.

Not Affordable Housing

Ruto’s words, spoken alongside Lang’ata MP and media personality Jalang’o, quickly became the defining moment of the development:
“Jalas, mawe ile mimi najua ni affordable housing, ehhe… Lakini sasa kuna mawe mpya… Majembe… Mbavu The Destroyer… Wanakutana tarehe nne, mwezi wa nne…”
In the video, the President joked that the “stones” (mawe) everyone was talking about were no longer about affordable housing, nyota, SHA, or the soko, but a different kind of mawe,  the kind that erupts when two fighters meet in the ring.
“Hii ni mawe tofauti… Sema ni mbaya… Hii ni mbaya… Hii ni mbaya,” Ruto said, emphasising the hype surrounding the fight.

Two Fighters, One Big Night

Scheduled for April 4, 2026, the Majembe vs Mbavu Destroyer fight has captured attention far beyond boxing circles.

The bout began trending on social platforms after both fighters started training, fans picked sides, and hashtags like #MajembeVsMbavuDestroyer and #HiiNiMbaya began flooding timelines.
Entertainer Khaligraph Jones backs Majembe, while Jalang’o’s camp has openly rooted for Mbavu The Destroyer, creating a celebrity sideshow that mirrors the fight itself.

Ruto’s Support

In a move that instantly lit up social media, the President went further than just words.
He announced that he would personally contribute KSh 1,000,000 to both Majembe and Mbavu The Destroyer,  a gesture that many netizens took as symbolic backing from the highest office in the land.
“Na mimi nawekea Majembe, one million… Mbavu The Destroyer… one million,” he said.
But that wasn’t all.
Ruto also pledged to cover the cost of 2,000 tickets, with 1,000 tickets for Majembe fans of Majembe and 1,000 for Mbavu supporters, effectively making the showdown accessible to a wider audience.
“Nitalipa gate… ticket ya watu elfu moja … So two thousand tickets,” he said.

Social Media Goes Wild

As soon as the clip hit timelines, reactions poured in:
Some fans laughed hysterically at the President’s playful tone, while others turned “Hii ni mbaya” into memes, sound bites, and trending audio. Many reposted the viral moment with captions like:
@fidelthewheeler: “Ama Ruto anakuaga mzuri sisi ndio wabaya😂😂”
@Rich_ Daniel_1: “Nimbaiyaa 🙌😂”
Content creators quickly stitched the audio under training clips of Majembe and Mbavu The Destroyer, fuelling further hype on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X.
The contrast between a traditional political figure and a creator-driven event became part of the story itself, making the fight a shared digital moment for fans across generations and interests.
