Triple Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon will be on a special mission on tonight, 26th June, at Paris’s Stade Charléty in her attempt to run 1 mile’s race in under 4 minutes, which the organisers, Nike, have dubbed the”Breaking4″ project.
In order to fulfil her dream on Thursday, the three-time world champion will have to run a steady pace of 59.75, seconds for every 400m in the one-mile course, which is equivalent to 1600m.
During her effort, the 31-year-old will be helped by male pacers, carbon-plated spikes, aerodynamic skin suits, and laser lights on the track.
Kipyegon will be aiming to break her current world best of 4:07.64, which she set in Monaco in 2023, by about 7 seconds.
Many athletes have expressed support and wished Kipyegon the best of luck in her mission; among them are double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet, World 800m champion Mary Moraa, 3000MSC Olympic bronze medallist Faith Cherotich and former World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge
