Kenya U-21 hockey teams in last ditch push to stay in Africa Championships

Kenya’s under-21 hockey teams face must-win matches against Zambia today at the Junior Africa Cup in Windhoek, Namibia, as they fight to stay in contention for semi-final spots and potential World Cup qualification.

Having picked up one point from a draw and suffered a 5-3 defeat to hosts Namibia, the men’s team must win their noon clash against Zambia to keep their semi-final hopes alive. It’s a pivotal fixture, and anything less than victory could end their campaign prematurely.

The women’s team is in even deeper trouble, having lost two matches and drawn one so far. They were beaten 4-0 by continental giants South Africa on Monday, leaving them at the bottom of the standings.

With just one point from three games, the Kenyan girls must beat Zambia today at 2:00 pm and then defeat Zimbabwe in their final match to have any chance of progressing or securing World Cup qualification.

Both teams were on the back foot on Monday. While the men gave a spirited performance in a thrilling 5-3 loss to Namibia, the women struggled to contain South Africa’s dominance.

The Kenyan ladies are still searching for their first win of the tournament.

Today’s fixtures will likely determine whether Kenya continues in the competition or bows out early. The pressure is on, and all eyes are now on the young stars to deliver when it matters most.

Day Three Results—April 21

  • Women: Kenya 0–4 South Africa
  • Men: Kenya 3–5 Namibia

Today’s Fixtures—April 22

  • Men: Kenya vs Zambia (12:00)
  • Women: Kenya vs Zambia (14:00)
