Nyamira County Woman Representative, Jerusha Momanyi has urged residents of Nyamira County to officially register their groups so that they can benefit from governments’ funding and empowerment projects in the county.
Momanyi made this appeal when she was issuing tents to registered community-based groups in Nyamira observing that most residents, especially youths, women and persons with disabilities lose out on government funding and other development projects meant to empower them because they fail to work in teams.
“Government’s strategy of empowering its citizens financially is through registered groups by the Department of Social Development. People with common economic empowerment interest and a vision for economic growth can be readily supported by the government because they have shown unity of purpose,” said Momanyi.
Momanyi explained that government officers can more easily reach people at the grassroots level when they are organized in teams or groups. Such groups have the capacity to form a strong bargaining power when seeking services and support. Furthermore, as long as these teams or groups are officially registered, the government has authorized them to benefit from funding to help realize their economic initiatives.
She explained that the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) alone cannot meet the diverse needs of funding for their business initiatives, advising them to source for funds from other government agencies and institutions mandated to give funds to registered groups with intentions of growing their businesses.
She urged residents who are struggling to access medical services through SHA to be patient as top government officials address the initial challenges. Efforts are underway to streamline the insurance coverage, ensuring that residents can receive medical services without the need for cash payments, which are difficult to afford in these tough economic times.
Jerusha has been providing support to youth involved in sports, women engaged in economic ventures, and schoolgirls by supplying sanitary towels. Additionally, she has been donating water storage tanks to schools for rainwater harvesting to ensure a steady water supply during dry spells.
