Kiss 100’s Muchina Malomba: Why Dating Needs to “Level Up”

Kiss 100 presenter Muchina Malomba believes it’s time for people in the dating scene to level up their conversation skills.

According to him, many individuals stuck in the “talking stage” tend to ask basic, repetitive questions instead of engaging in meaningful discussions.

Sharing his thoughts on his show, which he co-hosts, Muchina expressed frustration over the predictability of modern dating.

“I’ve reached a point where I have no more energy for talking stages. Ati ‘hi, how are you, what’s your favorite color?’ Cynthia, I’m tired! Dating in Nairobi feels like everyone is following the same script. How about asking me about my childhood traumas or my boundaries? Mambo ya colors in 2025, tutawezana kweli?”

On Staying Grounded Despite Fame

In a recent interview with Esther Alex, Muchina stated that being a radio presenter has not changed his personality or lifestyle.

“I’m just me. I still use matatus. A job won’t change who I am.”

Opening Up About Childhood Struggles

Muchina also spoke candidly about his battle with depression and bullying during primary school.

“I was bullied because I wasn’t a bright student. As a child, I felt like a failure, and that really messed me up. My father’s absence added to my trauma. I reached a point where I felt depressed—it was exhausting.”

Losing his mother in 2014 further deepened his struggles.

“When my mum passed away, I felt like there was no reason to work hard. It was a dark time for me.”

Overcoming Mental Health Challenges

He revealed that he withdrew into a deep emotional shell, feeling like life had lost its meaning.

“Not understanding why my father left affected my mental health. My mother was the only one who truly understood me. But I’ve since forgiven my father.”

Muchina credited his grandmother and his mother’s family for raising him with love and support.

“I was raised in Bungoma by my grandmother. My dad wasn’t in the picture, but my mum’s family surrounded me with love.”

Through the support of friends and faith, Muchina found the strength to heal and move forward.
