The company terminated the contract after Mijungu allegedly asked for time off to consider the options of working with the said media house.
His dismissal was announced in a letter dated February 22.
Mijungu wrote to Cape Media management on Friday, February 21, seeking time off to reflect on his engagement with the company.
Cape Media CEO in the letter confirmed the management approved Mijungu’s request for an early contract termination which he submitted just days after joining TV47.
“We acknowledge receipt of your email dated February 21, 2025, in which you requested time off to reflect on your engagement with the company,
Having considered the matter, management has taken the decision to revoke the Service Agreement dated 31st January 2025. This decision takes effect from the 22nd of February 2025. This development notwithstanding, we shall be pleased to engage with you on future possibilities. Management wishes you the best in your future endeavours,” the letter read in part.
Mijungu joined Cape Media’s TV47 in January days after announcing his departure from Standard Group’s KTN.

The move was announced by TV47 on X on Friday, February 7, 2025.
“Cape Media is happy to announce that Ken Mijungu will be joining the TV47 team, on the same day the station announced that TV 47 will be moving from Channel 268 to Channel 274, on DStv from 12th February 2025. These come as part of the plans to make TV 47 Bigger, Better and Bolder,” TV47 stated.

Below are some reactions to the same
Ochieng Joshua: I don’t think he wanted the job. He wanted a means of exiting TV job without drama or scrutiny. The man is super rich, a billionaire that many Kenyans don’t know, and his source of such billions, is questionable although some are now generated from high-ended businesses including helicopter taxis and luxurious car proceeds. The trained lawyer is indeed a trickster.
Mwirigi Lillian: This TV47 should be investigated as to how it’s luring these people watoke kwa their former working stations alafu wanawafuta..they are killing talents.
Godwin Kassel Senior: Ken is competitive, he is a lawyer and entrepreneur in the mobility business and the best journalist.
Omoriki Vincent Makori: What made TV47 hit the ground is the branding and absorbing big names which at the end of the day can’t be sustained.
With time it will be going down tubaki na KBC yetu, KTN, Citizen and NTV. Hii town ni ngumu sana kukaa.
Samuel Karongo Kabena: You will rise again brother Ken ..it’s only a storm!
