A team from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will be camping in Nandi County for the next one week with a mission of sensitizing and training the National and County Government heads of departments, Technical and Vocational Education Training institutions plus the locals on matters of corruption.
EACCs North Rift Regional Manager Charles Rusugu said that they will emphasize on the Ethics and Leadership Act according to Chapter Six of the Constitution while interacting with government officials and Nandi residents.
He said the commission’s outreach campaign is intended to bring awareness to every Kenyan on the effects of corruption and how it can be stopped.
“Before waiting for corruption to happen, it is important that we dialogue so that we can prevent it from happening,” he said.
Rusugu said they will be interacting with the locals in six Sub-Counties making Nandi County including having classroom sessions in ten Nandi TVET institutions.
The Regional Manager has therefore appealed to the Nandi residents to interact freely with the team from EACC and ask questions while suggesting solutions “on how we can deal with corruption in our country.”
“If you see our team coming to your area, please interact and share your opinion on how we can work together in fighting corruption,” Rusugu said.
Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei promised the EACC team that they will provide any needed form of help as they train government heads of department on topics of corruption.
He said EACC county outreach was a national exercise and it doesn’t mean that Nandi County was being investigated or had most corruption cases but the commission was carrying out a routine exercise to visit every county at its own time.
“It does not mean that Nandi County is being investigated or has most corruption cases. No. it is time for sensitization, education so that every one of us can help in fighting corruption,” she said.
Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner Alfet Jilo said the locals play a key role in fighting against corruption by voicing out their opinions freely without fear.
Jilo said corruption is the greatest enemy of a country’s development and that the EACC campaign will help in bringing everybody to war against corruption.
They were speaking during the flagging off of EACC caravan at Nandi County Headquarters building ground. The team will be touring the entire county while training and sensitizing government officials and locals on corruption matters.
