Kisii College Girl’s Neighbour Recalls Her Last Moments Before Death in Toilet: “Alikuwa na Bwanake”

The neighbour of the Kisii girl who died in a pit latrine in the Gekomu area, Mwembe, Kisii count has spoken. Celine Nyangweso passed away on Friday night, January 31 after falling into a collapsing pit latrine. How old was Nyangweso? The 24-year-old was answering nature’s call when the incident happened leaving her neighbours heartbroken. . Victor Odongo, Nyangweso’s neighbour recounted the young lady’s last moments before the tragic incident. “The case occurred around 9pm when this young lady had descended to help herself. She removed her shoe to enter the pit toilet. When she entered, she was with her husband. The latrine collapsed, and they entered inside. When they entered, the husband jumped to save her but he could not because the slab had covered the young lady and the latrine was full of water,” Odongo shared.
Odongo says heavy rainfall destroyed pit latrine The man said the latrine never had issues or concerns until heavy rain which deteriorated the toilet. He blamed the heavy downpour for the destruction of the pit latrine as the rain made the under-construction project weaker. “The disaster officials responded quickly but they could not do much in haste because of the amount of water that had infiltrated the pit latrine. It seemed the lady had fallen on her head based on how the slab had covered her,” he added. Nyangweso’s landlady Nyaboke speaks The area’s landlady, Linet Nyaboke said the pit latrine never had problems as she expressed her sadness after the accident and death of one of her tenants. Nyaboke said she was sleeping in her house when she heard screams that immediately woke her up together with her family members. Nyangweso’s lifeless body was retrieved and taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
