Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched efforts to restore the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s popularity in Mount Kenya. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing development projects in Nyeri. This is after he stormed his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua’s backyard in Nyeri county and seemingly called out tribal politics terming it as divisive. He added that the Kenya Kwanza government is prioritising service delivery to Kenyans over political engagements at the moment. “To get involved in politics at this time is reckless. Service delivery and bettering the lives of Kenyans are our top priorities.”

What development plans did Kindiki promise Nyeri residents? Speaking in Kieni, Nyeri County, on Friday, January 31, the deputy president said he had not expected a large turnout for his public address. Kindiki not only addressed the public but also announced development plans, pledging that the government would complete all unfinished roads in Nyeri. “Because the country’s economy has been stabilised. I have come here with good news. This road of ours is going to be completed immediately. Because the economy has stabilised, there is money to build roads. We are building more than 12 roads in Nyeri worth KSh 17 billion” Kindiki said. He defended President William Ruto’s administration, saying road projects were delayed as the government initially prioritized stabilizing the economy and reducing the cost of living in its first two years. He further stated that the government is also looking to ensure that more homes in Nyeri have power supply.

“The Government will connect more than one million customers to the national grid in the next 20 months in the last mile connectivity program underway across the 290 Constituencies. This will raise the number of households connected to electricity from 2.5 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025,” Kindiki added. Kindiki said around 400 new markets are under construction nationwide. He pledged to personally inspect those built in Nyeri before the president officially opens them upon completion. He added that the government and the president are committed to creating job opportunities and improving roads, water, and energy supply. “In addition to creating jobs, the president and government are trying to improve roads, water, and energy. Political disputes will not divert us,” Kindiki added.
