William Kabogo Explains How He Landed CS Job, Denies Uhuru’s Involvement: “I Was Very Surprised”

Newly appointed Information, Communications, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has clarified how he secured his position. ICT CS Kabogo has denied that his appointment was a result of the Uhuru-Ruto handshake.  Was Uhuru involved in Kabogo getting CS job? Kabogo stated that his appointment was not linked to the December 9, 2024, meeting between former president Uhuru Kenyatta and President William Ruto in Ichaweri, Kiambu County.  Speaking during a Monday interview with Citizen TV, he argued that just because his nomination came after Uhuru hosting Ruto, does not mean that the former president influenced it

Kabogo further affirmed that he has not communicated with the former president for some time. “I don’t know. Kenya is a vibrant nation with rumours, people just make up things. It came just after the visit of the President to Ichaweri. I am telling you that I am 100% sure that it had nothing to do with that visit However, the Cabinet secretary said he received a phone call from the head of state, who mentioned working on something but did not provide details. He added that he was surprised when the president nominated him to the Cabinet following their brief phone conversation. “The next thing I saw it on a bullet in. I was very surprised by the way. I was like God I have been called to serve. My phone started ringing. People I haven’t heard from in 10 years or so,” Kabogo said. Why did Ruto visit Uhuru in his Ichaweri home?

In a separate incident, the president explained why he reached out to Uhuru despite their past political feud. Speaking at the Pastoralists Leadership Summit in Wajir County on December 2024, Ruto said he met with Uhuru to seek common ground for future collaboration in the national interest. Ruto also stated that he had previously approached former prime minister Raila Odinga for the same purpose, which led to the formation of a broad-based government. Ruto emphasised his push for a country where everyone has a stake, indicating his willingness to move past his strained relationship with his former boss.
