Joyce, a widow, an orphan, and a mother who had already lost her other children, had gone on a vacation with Georgina, who used to study at Alliance Girls High School. The two were members of Lavington SDA Church, where Joyce is a choir member, and the daughter was active in the clubs for young people.
During the Christmas festivities, mummy and daughter went to Mombasa for a crossover vacation and booked an apartment for their staycation. “Sadly, while cooking a meal one morning, the boilers exploded, throwing them to the ground and burning them severely! Joyce had 40% burns and the young girl had 60%! This was two weeks ago,” said former Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), David Osiany. “Joyce and the daughter were evacuated and flown to Nairobi for immediate medical care. They were admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital – Burns Unit, unable to do anything. Friends have been and continue to donate blood and cash to support them,” he added. How did Joyce react after Georgina’s death?
On January 14, Georgina sadly passed away, and to make matters worse, the girl died while the mother was still in surgery. “The only remaining child has died! Yes, I said just that, our little girl has died! Oh God. Are you there amidst such pain? I know you give the grace, but how do we handle such pain?” wondered Osiany.”When Joyce heard of her daughter’s death after regaining consciousness, she just inconsolably wept and said, I want to die!” revealed Osiany. Granted, Joyce is in a lot of pain as what was supposed to be a happy moment with her child turned out to be the last time she would see her daughter hale and hearty. To add salt to her injury, the hospital bill is accruing at an estimated KSh 180,000 daily and is now very huge; the family needs KSh 10 million.
