Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has scheduled maintenance in some areas in three counties on Friday, January 10. Kenya Power List Areas to Experience Power Interruptions on Friday, January 10 List of areas to experience power blackout In a statement on Thursday, January 9, KPLC said the localities in the foregoing counties will experience an electricity blackout for six to eight hours. “Good evening, Please find the areas on scheduled power maintenance for 10/01/2025,” KPLC said. North Rift Region Area: Kebulonik, Tabolwa, Septonok In the statement, KPLC indicated that some areas in Nandi County will be without power for nine hours, from 8.15am to 5.30pm.
The areas are; Kibulonik, Sangalo Tea Tabolwa, Mogobenik, Septonok, Kalyet, Kibgobe, Triiin and adjacent customers. Mt Kenya Region Areas: Chinga, Kagicha, Ruruguti Part of Nyeri County will be without electricity for eight hours, starting from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The areas include Muiringi Mkt, Kagicha Mkt, Chinga Girls, Gathabari, Gathanji, Gichiche Mkt, Demka Dairies, Kinu Mkt, Gitundu, Chinga Boys, Ruruguti Mkt, Ruthiruinu, Gikurwe Village and adjacent customers. Then Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir explained that the abrupt surge in power through the Juja-Lessos-Muhoroni link often caused an overload at Olkaria 2 transformers and the Dandora-Juja transmission link, leading to a power outage as the power lines dropped. The CS assured Kenyans that they knew what the problem was and had plans underway to stop the blackouts. Chirchir noted that the government was planning to begin load shedding to reduce strain on power lines in some areas; however, he said it would be a form of scheduling so that the entire national grid does not fail.
