Govt Critic Painfully Recounts Losing NGO Job After Sending Money To Kibet Bull: “I’m Hopeless”

A government critic on social media has come forward with a harrowing account of how he lost his lucrative NGO job. George Diano says authorities misinterpreted his payment to Kibet Bull.  This follows his alleged connection to Kibet Bull, an online activist who was allegedly abducted under mysterious circumstances. The critic, George Diano, shared his experience in a detailed post, accusing the authorities of fabricating a narrative to justify the activist’s abduction. Who Is George Diano? George Diano is a well-known social media commentator who has gained a reputation for criticizing the government. He often posts on governance issues and the alleged failures of the current President Ruto-led administration. However, Diano now finds himself entangled in a controversy he claims is entirely fabricated. ”

All I do is tell stories, fight for good governance, and call out this kakistocratic regime,” he wrote. Why did George Diano send Kibet Bull money? Diano revealed that he sent Kibet Bull money as payment for a gig the activist had completed a week prior to his abduction. According to him, the payment was part of a professional arrangement that included three other influencers. “One week before @Kibet_Bull was abducted, I had sent him some money as payment for a gig he had completed a week prior,” Diano explained. He added that the payment had nothing to do with Kibet’s criticism of the government. Diano believes the authorities intercepted messages between him and Kibet and manipulated them to construct a false narrative. “The DCI or whoever abducted Kibet intercepted the messages and decided to fabricate a narrative to justify his abduction,” he claimed.

Why was George Diano dismissed from NGO job? Diano’s employer, an international NGO that has operated in Kenya since 2004, dismissed him shortly after the incident. He says the dismissal was framed as “unpaid leave pending investigations,” but believes it was a result of coercion by external pressures. “Upon discovering that I work with an NGO, they accused my boss of funding Kibet and other online activists,” Diano wrote. He alleged that his employer was threatened with the closure of the organization, forcing them to act against him, terminating his employiment. The government critic expressed understanding for his employer’s decision.

“I don’t blame my employer for my unlawful dismissal; it was a decision that didn’t require much consideration.” Kibet Bull has responded to George Diano’s allegations in a post on X, acknowledging their professional relationship while denying any wrongdoing. According to Kibet, the authorities misinterpreted the payment he received from Diano. “George Diano gave me a gig and paid me. After DCI took my phone they found out he sent me money, so they’ve been following him and his boss accusing them of funding me,” Kibet wrote. He expressed his support for Diano, adding that he is a good friend. “I heard he lost his job. Otherwise George Diano is a great friend. We’ve come from far,” Kibet added.
