Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced the government’s plans to recruit more police officers. DP Kithure Kindiki said the government will recruit police in March, 2025.  Kindiki: When will the government recruit police officers?

During an interdenominational service in Lodwar, Turkana county, on Sunday, December 15, Kindiki said the recruitment will bolster security efforts in the country and other volatile areas.  While acknowledging that there have been delays in recruiting police officers, the deputy president disclosed that the exercise will occur in March 2025.

The second in command said the recruitment is part of President William Ruto’s administration’s plan to create more jobs for Kenyans. ”We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces and even for that of police officers that had delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March. We are trying to create more job opportunities in the public sector and the informal sectors,” he added.

The deputy president said the government will seek to deploy the officers in the northeastern parts of the country. At the same time, Kindiki pledged to work closely with his successor in the Ministry of Interior. Kindiki said that despite relinquishing the post, he would be available to offer insight to whoever the president appoints as the new Interior Cabinet secretary.

“Even as deputy president, I will continue to work with the new Interior CS to make sure that our country is safe. We pray for the minister but we will be there to offer backup to make sure that our country is safe,” he added.
