Larry Madowo 'Finishes' Kipchumba Murkomen after Unleashing Receipts of CS Lamenting About JKIA

Journalist Larry Madowo has openly criticised Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen after the latter rebuked him for publicising the leaking roof issue at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Larry Madowo(right) shared past posts(centre) in which Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen(left) was complaining about JKIA.  Madowo had earlier voiced his concerns over the leaking roofs and the absence of a canopy at JKIA, which led to travellers getting wet. What did Kipchumba Murkomen say to Larry Madowo? Murkomen expressed his displeasure with Madowo’s comments, advising him against casting his home country in a poor light. Citing several instances, including Madowo’s previous comments about flooding on Nairobi’s Expressway, the CS accused him of fostering a negative perception of Kenya. The CS also claimed that Madowo suddenly started raising these concerns after travelling abroad. Part of Murkomen's lengthy post on X read: "Don’t use your global amazing voice to amplify negativity. Your colleagues working for CNN don’t do that when they visit their home countries." "Every time you visit your country or continent, and you amplify negativity, then you build a false imbalanced image of your motherland." How did Larry Madowo respond to Kipchumba Murkomen? The CS's remarks seem to have irked Madowo, who responded by saying Murkomen was "gaslighting" Kenyans. He also noted that he had been raising concerns about the issues at JKIA long before relocating abroad.  Madowo then doubled down by unearthing past complaints from Murkomen about JKIA—the very issue for which Madowo was being criticised. "Bro, is this you?" Madowo asked sharing screenshots of the CS's posts. In a post from November 2012, Murkomen pointed out the delays at the international airport. Another post from January 28, 2014, saw him lamenting a traffic jam at JKIA "The traffic jam at JKIA is terrible. The airport ain't looking international," Murkomen wrote. Madowo noted that the CS was actually the one whose perception and stance had changed. "Just pointing out how you've changed because you and I were on the same page in 2014 Bro, you're the one who is still not getting it. Read James 1:5," Madowo said. Kipchumba Murkomen on replacing JKIA's roofs In December 2023, CS Murkomen instructed the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to replace leaking roofs at JKIA and Wilson airports.  Murkomen said that he had also directed KAA to unclog the drainages at the three airports and asked the authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands to map out the parcels of lands belonging to JKIA, MIA and Wilson and protect them from encroachment. The CS was speaking after receiving an interim report on the state of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport (MIA) and the Wilson Airport from a technical committee that was commissioned on November 15.
