Tragedy as 20 Cambodia Soldiers Killed in Ammunition Explosion: “Deepest Condolences”

WION reported that an entire truck of ammunition exploded at 2.45pm on Saturday, April 27, at the army base in Kampong Speu province. How the Cambodia explosion occurred Prime Minister Hun Manet sent his condolences to the families of soldiers who died in the explosion and wished a quick recovery for those injured. “I am deeply shocked to receive the news of the ammunition explosion incident. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those killed. I would like to pray for the soul of the soldiers to rest in peace, and also wish the soldiers and victims a speedy recovery,” Manet said. Pictures on social media showed a destroyed one-storey building wreathed in smoke, with residents of a nearby village also sharing images online of broken windows. According to the initial report, the incident was a “warehouse ammunition explosion”, that had destroyed a truck fully loaded with weaponry. An office building as well as nearby barracks were destroyed, with 25 nearby homes also battered by the resulting explosion. The prime minister has ordered the Defence Minister to urgently arrange funerals for the soldiers who died, adding that their families will receive $20,000 (KSh 2.69 million) each, while injured soldiers would get $5,000 (KSh 670,000).
