Kenya’s National Youth Service Announces Massive Recruitment of Cadets, Privates

Source: Facebook NYS advertised 250 job vacancies for cadet officers and 500 positions for privates (ex-NYS service men and women) on permanent and pensionable terms. The government institution invited applications from eligible job seekers in an advertisement published in MyGov on Tuesday, March 3.  “The National Youth Service (NYS) is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of private and cadet officers in the following categories,” the advert stated. Which cadet officer roles did NYS advertise? Structural engineer – four posts. Electrical engineer – three posts. Mechanical engineer – three posts. Architect – two posts. Civil engineer – 10 posts. Water engineer – two posts. Quantity surveyor – three posts. Land surveyor – three posts. Finance officer – four posts. Accountant – 15 posts. Auditor – two posts. Supply chain management officers – 15 posts. Economist/statistician – three posts. Entrepreneurship officer – three posts. Marketing officer – three posts. Corporate communication officer – five posts. Legal officer – four posts. Chaplain – 10 posts. Hydrologist – four posts. Agricultural officer – five posts. Livestock production – four posts. Veterinary officer – four posts. Project management officer – three posts. ICT officer – six posts. ICT assistant III – five posts. Supply chain management assistant III – five posts. Registered community health nurse – 23 posts. Registered clinical officer – 10 posts. Laboratory technologist – four posts. Machine operators – 15 positions. Physiotherapist – six posts. Records management assistant II – 12 posts. General officer cadet – 50 posts.

What are the requirements for NYS cadets? Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a valid KRA and ID cards. Cadets must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum KCSE grade C+ (plus), while Privates must hold a KCSE grade C- (Minus) or diploma and above must have an NYS discharge certificate Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old and have no criminal record. Candidates must be medically fit. Successful candidates must comply with Chapter Six of the Constitution. “Applicants who meet the above requirements are required to download and complete the application for Employment Form – PSC.2 (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website. Duly completed application forms should be submitted to director-generalnys@gmail.com or through the post office,” it explained. NYS listed the requirements that candidates must meet.  List of vacancies for NYS privates Drivers – 70 posts. Plant operators – 80 posts. Masons – 30 posts. Electricians – 10 posts. Carpenters – 15 posts. Plumbers – 10 posts. Band – 30 positions. Agriculture – 10 posts. Secretaries – 20 posts. Panel beater – 20 posts. Motor vehicle mechanic – 20 posts. Welders – 20 posts. General duty – 160 posts.
