Lydia Wanjiru Sets the Record Straight on Wash-Wash Allegations

Kenyan content creator Lydia Wanjiru has addressed followers who suggested she could be arrested for involvement in the “wash wash” business.

The social media personality hosted a hypothetical Q&A session on Instagram, asking her fans what crime they thought she would be most likely to be accused of if she were to be arrested.

The term “wash wash” is a common Kenyan slang used to describe money laundering and fraudulent financial schemes. In recent years, several high-profile influencers in Nairobi have faced public scrutiny regarding the sources of their wealth.

Surprise at Financial Allegations

When Wanjiru asked, “If I got arrested, what would you think I probably did?”, a significant number of her followers pointed toward “wash wash.”

The creator expressed her shock at the frequency of this response. She noted that she documents her daily work and business activities for her audience to see.

“Waaah, a number of you have said this. I’m shocked coz hua nawaonyesha my hustle daily,” Wanjiru responded.

She jokingly followed up by asking her followers to “connect” her to such opportunities if they existed. Despite the light-hearted tone, the exchange highlighted a recurring theme in the comments regarding the creator’s financial status.

“Never Mess With My Money”

The conversation around finances continued as other fans suggested her love for money might lead to legal trouble. One follower claimed that her love for money is loud. Wanjiru did not shy away from this observation, confirming her strict stance on financial matters.

She told her followers that she works hard for her income and has no tolerance for those who interfere with her earnings.

“Listen, you’re absolutely right. Never mess with me with money. I love my money, and I work for it,” she stated.

The “Guilty” Verdict on Altercations

While she dismissed the idea of physical fights with men, calling herself “too pretty” for such antics, she admitted to having a fiery side. One follower suggested she might be arrested for an argument that turned into a fight due to her temper and mouth.

Wanjiru conceded that this was a more likely scenario. She explained that she finds certain insults or condescending remarks hard to ignore. She suggested that some levels of disrespect might justify a slap or two.

Defending the Vulnerable

Wanjiru also revealed a protective streak. One fan suggested she would be arrested for defending a loved one. She agreed, stating she would be “guilty” of this, but added that she would even step in for strangers.

She cited a previous incident she had shared with her audience involving a guest and a waitress. She expressed a strong stance against people using their positions of power to mistreat workers who fear losing their jobs.

The creator concluded by stating she would go to great lengths to defend those she perceives as “mnyonge” (weak or vulnerable).
