Kenyan R&B artist Otile Brown has stated that fellow musician Jovial must not attend his burial in the event of his death. The singer disclosed this during an interview on the Over 1M Podcast hosted by Tony Mwirigi.
A Firm Stance on Personal Boundaries
Speaking during the sit-down, Otile Brown addressed the current state of his relationship with Jovial following their public disagreement. He made it clear that their rift has reached a point where he does not want her present at his final rites.
“Where it has reached between me and Jovial, she’s somebody that today I dare to say that even if I die today, Jovial is someone who should not be allowed at my funeral,” Otile Brown said.
Addressing the podcast host, Otile Brown emphasised the emotional gravityof the feud.
“That’s how deep she hurt me,” he stated.
He noted that while he often grants people second chances, her actions caused a permanent fracture.
Musical History and Career Investments
The two artists previously shared a close professional bond in the Kenyan music industry. Otile Brown introduced Jovial to national audiences when she was an emerging artist based in Mombasa. Over the course of their work together, they recorded seven collaborative songs.
Otile Brown explained that he wrote several tracks for her and covered her production costs. He stated that he spent KSh 250,000 on video shoots for her music.
He added that when she decided to leave his record label, he allowed her to depart freely without requiring financial payout or split sheet shares.
Public Feud and Personal Grievances
Despite his early support, the relationship broke down following public statements made by both parties.Otile Brown expressed frustration over comments Jovial made publicly, which included references to a DNA test dispute. He admitted to reacting emotionally during the conflict, acknowledging that the comments hurt him deeply.
During the interview, Otile Brown also reflected on his broader career statistics. He highlighted his position as one of the most streamed artists in Kenya across platforms like YouTube and Boomplay.
He cited holding a lead of over 100 million streams ahead of fellow industry artists.
No Plans for Reconciliation
Despite the commercial success of their past musical releases, Otile Brown indicated that he has no plans to repair the friendship. He maintained that his decision regarding his funeral remains final due to the nature of their past fallout.
