Digital content creator Naomi Kuria has opened up about how her past use of bhang affected her career, costing her a Ksh 600,000 promotional deal with Uber.
In an interview on the “Obinna TV Extra” show, Kuria explained that the brand requested her to redo a video as part of standard content creation procedures.
Struggling With Motivation
However, she said she found herself unable to comply after using the substance. “I was just lazing around in my couch,” Kuria admitted, describing how the drug left her extremely lazy and indifferent to professional obligations.
She revealed that her failure to complete the project led to Uber terminating the contract, a loss she now views as a turning point in her life.
Cognitive and Emotional Effects
Kuria highlighted the impact bhang had on her cognitive abilities, including memory and speech. She noted difficulties in recalling words and expressing herself clearly, stating she struggled to bring to form speech.
Kuria said her experience aligns with how different intoxicants can affect brain functionality and reaction times, with weed having a particularly strong hold on her.
The content creator also connected her substance use with emotional challenges, saying that it coincided with chronic anxiety and suicidal thoughts.
She described a period in her life where she felt out of touch with life, caught between the person she was becoming and the life she wanted to live.
From Success to Substance Abuse
Kuria revealed that her entry into substance use began during a period of financial success. She said YouTube earnings, which she described as paying creators very well provided comfort that contributed to a cycle of smoking both weed and cigarettes.
Path to Recovery
The influencer officially quit using weed in September 2022. She credited her faith as a born-again Christian and the grace of God for helping her overcome previous suicidal ideations.
Kuria also acknowledged the role of her late father, who prayed for her shortly before passing in 2022, a moment she described as a symbolic handover to her faith.

Today, Naomi Kuria is focused on personal and professional renovations, including a recent cosmetic procedure to address weight gain and hormonal imbalance.
She has resumed content creation, frequently collaborating with her mother, and emphasizes the importance of regaining control over her life.
