In a notice on Wednesday, December 31, the CBK said the licensing of the new DCPs brings the number of licensed DCPs to 195. This came after the licensing of 27 DCPs in September 2025. “The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announces the licensing of an additional 42 Digital Credit Providers (DCPs). This is pursuant to Section 59(2) of the Central Bank of Kenya Act (CBK Act). CBK has received more than 800 applications since March 2022 and has worked closely with the applicants in reviewing their applications,” the notice read. The bank indicated that as of November 2025, licensed DCPs had issued loans worth KSh 109.8 billion to 6.6 million borrowers.

It urged applicants to submit relevant documentation for approval. “Other applicants are at different stages in the process, largely awaiting the submission of requisite documentation. We urge these applicants to submit the pending documentation expeditiously to enable completion of the review of their applications,” it stated.
