Photo of Winnie Odinga in Deep Thought As Guests Stream to Opoda Farm Moves Kenyans: “It’ll Be Well”

Former prime minister Raila Odinga was buried on Sunday, October 19, in a private ceremony conducted within 72 hours according to his wishes. Winnie Odinga eulogises his father during the State funeral.  The swift burial, though consistent with his personal request, left many Kenyans and global admirers unable to attend, sparking a wave of emotional tributes and visits to the family home in Siaya county.  Since Raila’s heroic interment, mourners from all walks of life have flocked to Kang’o ka Jaramogi, the final resting place of both Raila and his father, Kenya’s first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

The steady stream of visitors has transformed Opoda Farm into a space of reflection, unity, and shared mourning. On Monday, October 20, former president Uhuru Kenyatta made a return visit to the farm, joining members of the Odinga family at the gravesite. His quiet presence signalled the deep respect between the two leaders, whose political alliance and personal friendship endured a turbulent chapter in Kenya’s history. That same day, a delegation from the Acholi community of Northern Uganda arrived to pay their respects. They performed the Buola dance, a traditional rite reserved for individuals of extraordinary status, underscoring Raila’s standing not only in Kenya but across the East African region. Winnie Odinga in deep reflection On Wednesday, October 22, the Odinga family continued to host delegations from across the country. The atmosphere at Opoda was one of solemn solidarity, as leaders, supporters, and ordinary citizens arrived to comfort a family.

Migori governor Ochilo Ayacko and Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka were among those who made the journey to Bondo. The two leaders paid their respects at the burial site before meeting the family to express their condolences. It was during one of these moments that a photo of Winnie Odinga emerged, drawing the nation’s attention. Winnie, Raila’s youngest daughter, sat pensively, her expression mirroring the grief that had gripped the country since the veteran politician’s death. In the image, she sits quietly, her eyes fixed ahead, seemingly lost in thought as the activities around her continue. The moment captured a poignant truth about grief, especially for a daughter who shared an unbreakable bond with her father. Winnie had been by Raila’s side in India, where he took his final breath while undergoing treatment.

Kenyans comfort Winnie On social media, Kenyans were deeply moved by the image, describing it as a symbol of resilience and sent messages of comfort.
