A massive wave of generosity, driven primarily by the online community, swept through the Jesus Compassion Ministries (JCM) Church in Ruiru this past Sunday.
Thousands of Kenyans gathered at the church, led by Bishop Muthee Kiengei. The event was a Thanksgiving service for content creator Vincent Kaluma, known online as Kaluma Boy.
The focus of the overwhelming support was Kaluma Boy’s mother, Beatrice Wangechi.

Millions Raised in Minutes
The financial pledges flowed rapidly. During the service, Bishop Kiengei announced that contributions were still pouring in via a dedicated paybill number.
However, the headline figure was stunning: Ksh 2 million was raised for Kaluma Boy’s mother. This extraordinary sum was collected from the congregants and well-wishers in just thirty minutes.
The funds are set to establish a fully stocked shop for the mother in her hometown. Bishop Kiengei confirmed the shop would be named ‘Kaluma’s Boy Enterprise‘.
The pastor remarked that the event was about far more than just money.
“This is not just about money; it is about giving a family hope,” he said.
The Background of a TikTok Star
Kaluma Boy first captured national attention through heartfelt videos shared on his social media pages. The young content creator documented the challenging task of caring for his father.
His father suffered a stroke around the end of August 2024 and was seriously ill. Kaluma Boy had been working hard, plucking tea on a local farm, to try to cover the significant medical bills.
His consistency and compassion prompted widespread reaction. Towards the end of September, TikTokers and kind Kenyans flocked to the family’s humble home in Othaya with donations.

Emotional Gratitude and New Beginnings
The generosity extended beyond cash. The family also received a one-acre piece of land in Chaka. Several donors pledged to construct and furnish a new home on the land. Other gifts included clothing and a posho mill.
Kaluma Boy’s mother, Beatrice Wangechi, was visibly overwhelmed by the support. She broke down in tears as she addressed the cheering congregation.
“I have seen God perform a miracle live. I have seen Him do something for me that I never thought I would ever witness, and I will never forget it. I feel like I’m dreaming,” she expressed.
She also acknowledged the immense power of mobile phones and the talent that brought about this change.
University Scholarship Secured
The good news continued for Kaluma Boy himself. Bishop Kiengei used the service to announce that the TikTok star had secured a full university scholarship.

He will attend the East African University, a fully chartered private institution. The university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Christopher Mutembei, confirmed the grant.
Kaluma Boy will pursue a degree course in Sales and Marketing. This choice aims to enhance his digital marketing skills. Essential learning items, including a laptop, were also donated to aid his studies.
Bishop Kiengei stated that soon, the community would gather to celebrate his academic success.
“Be ready, soon we shall all go to pick him for graduation in some years to come. This is because of you all,” Kiengei declared.
