Mosiria Explains Reason for Feeding 563 Street Children with Pizza & Soda

Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, on Saturday provided a unique treat to vulnerable children in Kibra, serving them pizza and soda instead of conventional meals.

The initiative, captured in a video posted on his social media, aimed to offer a special experience to children who often only encounter such food on television.

A Different Approach to Community Support

Mosiria, explained his distinctive choice during the event. He noted that pizza is commonly viewed as a food for affluent children.

However, he firmly believes that children from less privileged backgrounds also deserve the opportunity to enjoy such meals.

This experience, he stated, helps them feel included and provides them with something to relate to when their wealthier counterparts discuss pizza.

“Many perceive pizza as food for rich children, but no, even a poor child can eat this pizza to gain an experience,” Mosiria emphasised.

“They shouldn’t just see it on television, where many often view it.”

Reaching Hundreds of Children

The initiative focused on feeding street children and vulnerable families from various centres across the informal settlement of Kibera.

Mosiria highlighted that many of these children often miss lunch, as their parents leave for work early and may return in the evening without money.

This particular event took place on the Sabbath, during which over 500 children were fed. In total, 563 children received pizza and soda. Additionally, maize flour was provided to families for future meals.

“I chose to celebrate the gift of life by sharing lunch with vulnerable families from different centers in Kibra. Together, we were able to feed over 500 children.”

“In total, I was able to feed 563 children with pizza and soda, and I also provided them with maize flour to be used to cook food for them,” he stated.

Beyond the Meal: A Message of Hope

The event was not solely about providing food; it also served as a platform for encouragement and empowerment.

Mosiria used the occasion to inspire the children, urging them to study diligently and aspire to become future leaders, such as presidents, doctors, lawyers, teachers, or even pilots.

He delivered a powerful message about the irrelevance of one’s background: “Your background where you are born doesn’t matter. What matters is the future you build.”

The Chief Officer also counselled the children to stay away from harmful influences, including drugs and individuals who might lead them astray.

He encouraged them to dream big, believing that consistent dreaming can lead to the realisation of their aspirations.

This unique pizza treat aimed to offer not just a meal, but a memorable moment and a dose of inspiration for the young residents of Kibera.
