A three-year-old boy died when a fire engulfed their family home in Kodhiambo village, Kochogo Location, Nyando Sub-county, early this morning.

The child was in the house with his twin sister, who miraculously escaped the blaze unharmed.

According to Kochogo North Assistant Chief Yvonne Awuor, the children had been left asleep in the house after their mother departed for work at Ahero market.

“The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage,” said Awuor. “Despite efforts by villagers who rushed to the scene, the flames spread rapidly and consumed household items including mattresses.”

Police officers from Ahero have since retrieved the child’s body, and an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the fire.

The incident has shocked the local community, raising concerns over child safety and the challenges of leaving minors unattended due to economic demands.
