Emily Wanjira, the appointed family spokesperson for Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, has issued a heartfelt and urgent appeal for financial assistance to facilitate the burial of the young man, who tragically lost his life recently.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday evening after the requiem mass for the slain mask vendor at ACK, Wanjira revealed that the family has been navigating an immensely tough journey since Kariuki’s demise three weeks prior.
“It has been a tough journey for us because ever since his demise it has been tragic to us for the past now three weeks. It has been difficult for us as a family it has been painful,” Wanjira began.
Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, identified as a mask vendor, was reportedly shot and subsequently endured a two-week struggle for survival before succumbing to his injuries. His passing has plunged the family into deep sorrow, as expressed by Wanjira.

In the wake of this profound loss, a memorial service was held earlier today on Wednesday at the All Saints Cathedral. The family has outlined further significant events to honor Kariuki’s memory and prepare for his final resting place.
A candle-lighting vigil was scheduled for 7:30 PM yesterday evening. The solemn gathering took place at the precise location where Kariuki was shot, allowing well-wishers and family members to mourn and reflect collectively.
Following the vigil, the period of mourning will continue, culminating in the burial scheduled for Friday.
To assist with the considerable expenses associated with funeral arrangements, the family has publicly shared a Paybill number.
“For the well-wishers, kindly come along the pay bill is still the same 7682551 account is your name. Kindly come along so that we can end this matter and at least clear that burden so that we focus on looking for justice,” Wanjira begged.
Beyond the immediate financial needs for the burial, the family’s unwavering focus remains on securing justice for Boniface Mwangi Kariuki. Wanjera emphasized this priority, asserting that justice is “the only thing that we want as a family”.

The legal proceedings related to Kariuki’s death are actively underway. The family is scheduled to return to court on Thursday as the case, which was initially categorized as “miscellaneous,” has now been formally reclassified to a murder case.
Wanjira also delivered a clear message to any individuals who might contemplate intervening or interfering with the legal process, stating firmly, “Please don’t”. She highlighted that the case has garnered significant public attention and is “ready” and known “everywhere” across Kenya, stressing the importance of allowing it to proceed through “the right channel as per constitution”.
In closing, Emily Wanjera expressed profound gratitude for the support received, acknowledging the family’s reliance on the community and divine guidance to “win” in their pursuit of justice. She concluded by thanking those present for their attention
