Kenyans Contribute Millions for Albert Ojwang’s Dad after Eric Omondi’s Appeal

Kenyan Comedian Eric Omondi has issued an update after appealing to Kenyans to support the late Albert Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo, financially.

On Tuesday, Omondi went public with an appeal to his online community, mostly referred to as Team Sisi Kwa Sisi, asking them to stand with Baba Albert, and they did so in minutes.

According to Omondi,  Mr Opiyo’s phone reached its M-Pesa limit in just 11 minutes, and they had to look for a second phone number so that the money could still be sent to him (Opiyo).

“I want to say a very big thank you and may God bless you, for the Overwhelming support you have given to Albert’s family through the father. Just within 11 minutes of me posting that post, Martin Opiyo’s phone was already full. May God bless you! Anybody who sent anything, we have another number which is  0113664965 (MESHACK OPIYO). Let’s keep sending. You can also send to Pochi la biashara on the other number 0727927898 (NAME: MESHACK OPIYO ), Jina bado itasema Meshack Opiyo. God BLESS🙏,” Eric Omondi said.

The maximum balance an M-PESA account can hold is Sh500,000. The maximum daily transaction limit is Sh500,000, and the maximum amount per transaction is Sh250,000.

Omondi started the Online fundraiser after viewing the late Albert Ojwang’s body at City Mortuary.

“How many more must we bury??? TEAM SISI KWA SISI lets stand with Baba Albert… Albert has left behind a 3-year-old Son. Let’s ensure he never lacks anything. May he grow up to know that his Father died a HERO. Send whatever you can to Baba Albert’s number 0727927898 (NAME: MESHACK OPIYO),” Omondi’s post read.

Albert Ojwang’s Cause of Death – Autopsy

An autopsy conducted on Tuesday has revealed that Ojwang died from severe head injuries, neck compression, and multiple soft tissue injuries consistent with assault.

The findings directly contradict an initial police report that suggested his death in custody was self-inflicted.

A team of pathologists, led by Government Pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia, concluded that Ojwang was hit in the head, strangled, and sustained multiple other injuries, ruling out the possibility of suicide.

“He had head and neck injuries. There were other multiple injuries consistent with assault,” Dr. Midia stated after concluding the post-mortem examination.

Dr. Midia firmly dismissed the police narrative that Ojwang had fatally injured himself by hitting his head against a cell wall at the Central Police Station. He explained that the pattern of injuries was inconsistent with such an act.

“When we examined… the pattern of the injury, especially on the trauma I found on the head…. Hitting against a blunt substance like a wall would have a pattern,” Dr. Midia said. He noted that a self-inflicted impact against a wall would likely cause frontal bleeding.

“But the bleeds that we found on the scalp… on the skin of the head were spaced, including on the face, sides of the head, and the back of the head,” he elaborated.

Dr. Midia, who conducted the procedure alongside the family’s representative pathologist, Dr. Mutuma Zambezi, stated that the widespread nature of the injuries pointed conclusively to an assault.

“When we tie up together with other injuries that are well spread on parts of the body… including the upper limbs and the trunk… Then this is unlikely to be self-inflicted injury,” he concluded.
