KMPDC rolls out e-registration system to streamline regulatory process

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has digitised its registration system as part of efforts to modernise healthcare regulation.

The council, which oversees the training, practice, and licensing of medicine, dentistry, and community oral health in Kenya, says the new electronic system will streamline operations, enhance service delivery, and promote transparency.

Applicants will be guided through a step-by-step interface to provide institutional information, including facility name, location, and classification, details of director(s), services offered, personnel available, and certified documentation to demonstrate compliance with applicable laws.

The new system further enhances data accuracy, enables automated validation, and ensures real-time audit trails, centralised digital records to improve retrieval and updates.

“The shift from a paper-based process to a secure, user-friendly digital platform is part of KMPDC long-term strategy to harness technology in line with the government’s digital transformation agenda”, KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki said in a statement

The platform is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 2019, protecting applicants’ sensitive information through encrypted submissions, automated logs, and strict access controls. It also allows 24/7 access for applicants and streamlines internal workflows through automated alerts and approvals.

Kariuki hailed the milestone, describing it as transformative in advancing the council’s mandate.

“ By embracing technology, KMPDC is making the process more transparent, efficient, and accessible. This digital shift not only simplifies access to registration but also reinforces public confidence in Kenya’s healthcare regulatory framework”, he emphasised
