Ogande Girls tops Nyanza region drama festivals

Ogande Girls School in Homa Bay County has won this year’s Nyanza region drama festivals.

The school’s drama club is now destined to represent the region in the national festivals to be held in Nakuru from April 6th to 13th.

The girls won the trophy during drama festivals held over the weekend at Orero Boys High School in Homa Bay County.

The school Principal, Jane Odhiambo, said they were confident of winning the upcoming national festivals.

Odhiambo said that their triumph had given them the necessary impetus and that they will continue training hard ahead of the national competition.

“The eyes of team Ogande Girls are focused on becoming the national champion in cultural dance this year. We are working hard towards achieving this,” she said.

Speaking yesterday while receiving the trophy at the school compound, Odhiambo said the win has boosted the morale of many teachers in the school in their preparation to implement the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.

The school head attributed their win to the support from teachers and parents as well as non-teaching staff.

Ogande Girls also represented the county in hockey in the regional secondary school’s sports games that took place at St Joseph’s Rapogi in Migori County.

Odhiambo said they are encouraging learners to discover their talents early, adding that such festivals provide them with platforms to showcase their abilities.

On academics, the principal noted that over 700 candidates got a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Exams (KCSE) and qualified for direct entry into university.

“Our girls have also shown a lot of commitment in both academics and co-curricular activities,” she said.

The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) in Homa Bay and Orero Boys High School Chief Principal Dickens Bula congratulated Ogande Girls for a good performance.

“We’re appealing to well-wishers to come and support the winning teams from the region to enable them to perform effectively in the national festivals,” Bula said.
