Keep off ongoing livestock vaccination exercise, politicians urged

The Director in charge of Livestock Policy and Regulation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Christopher Wanga says that vaccination is a science and it is the only way of controlling viral diseases affecting both livestock and humans.

In an interview with KBC Channel1, Dr. Wanga said the vaccines being used in the vaccination exercise are produced by the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI) hence safe for livestock.

Dr. Wanga said the lucrative animal foods market prefers the environment in which Kenya farmers raise their livestock.

He added that once a disease free status is declared in Kenya following consistent vaccination, it will be easier to access the markets and to comply with the set conditions.

The Head of Livestock Policy and Regulation said that already the government is working on a Livestock Masterplan to guide the sector.
