Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has once again hinted at contesting for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.  Will Fred Matiang’i resign from the World Bank job? On Monday, January 27, Kisii senator Richard Onyancha delivered Matiang’i’s political message to his expected political allies. . Speaking during the launch of the new Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) offices, Onyonka disclosed that Matiang’i has decided to resign from his top position at the World Bank.  Onyancha revealed that the former Interior CS informed him that he would soon be leaving his job in the United States of America and coming back to Kenya to concentrate on politics.

“Yesterday Fred Matiang’i called me from where he is working for the World Bank in Latin America. He has decided to leave the job and come back to Kenya to join our brothers,” Onyonka said. The Kisii senator stated that Matiang’i has planned to hold talks with other opposition leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, before deciding on which political party he would contest the top seat. “Secondly, he said that he has observed that many parties have mentioned him as a preferred member but he has asked them to wait so that he can come back home, speak with all our brothers first then decide the way forward,” he added.

In his speech, Onyancha hinted at the Kisii community quitting the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ahead of the 2027 poll. According to Onyancha, the Kisii community has supported ODM leader Raila Odinga for many years and it was time for the community to chart a new political direction. When did the Jubilee Party endorse Matiang’i? The latest development comes a few days after former president Uhuru Kenyatta-led party, Jubilee Party endorsed Matiangi for the top job. Speaking on Saturday, January 25 in Narok county, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni expressed confidence that Matiang’i would defeat President William Ruto in 2027. The former president Uhuru Kenyatta-led party urged its supporters to spread Matiang’i’s candidature countrywide, adding that with a united opposition, Ruto has minimal chances of being re-elected.
