The Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) has ranked President William Ruto as the second-most corrupt leader in the world. President William Ruto was ranked second behind former Syrian president Bashir al-Assad. Why Ruto was ranked second-most corrupt leader According to OCCRP, Ruto received over 40,000 award nominations, breaking the platform’s voting record.
However, despite topping the list, OCCRP gave the award to former Syrian president Bashir al-Assad for wreaking havoc in his country through organised crime and corruption. “An unprecedented number of people – more than 40,000 – wrote in to nominate Kenyan president William Ruto for “Person of the Year” in organised crime and corruption. Ruto’s government has been accused of greed and corruption resulting in failures in economic policy, health, education, as well as overall instability and the abduction of political opponents,” the report stated.
OCCRP noted that Kenyans submitted the nominations full of frustration and despair. “The judges acknowledge the importance of public interest and outrage at corruption,” it added. OCCRP is a global network of journalists headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Why Catholic bishops slammed Ruto On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) strongly criticised Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
Catholic Bishops heavily condemned Ruto’s government over the rising corruption, abductions and killing of women in the country. KCCB chairperson Maurice Muhatia claimed politicians in the country had become more greedy than before. Why Ruto invited IMF to Kenya A month before, Ruto requested that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) investigate government corruption.
Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi said that all government parastatals, ministries, departments and institutions will be required to undergo a mandatory governance and corruption diagnosis. Major shareholders at the IMF pressured Kenya to undertake a corruption and governance assessment to unlock funding.
