A former Kisumu All Stars FC player has been arrested following the tragic killing of a M-Pesa attendant in Kisumu. Byron Billy was arrested in connection with a robbery that left a Kisumu Mpesa lady dead. Byron Billy Owuor was forced out of his hideout at Obunga in the Kasarani area of Kisumu Central by Kondele-based police after months of going underground. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Owuor was part of an arrested duo linked to the violent robbery and murder of a 23-year-old businesswoman in Kondele. In the January incident, Grace Awino Adero, a M-Pesa shop owner in the Kondele area, was returning home alongside his husband when they were ambushed by two men. They reportedly shot her dead, robbing them of all proceeds of their day’s work before fleeing the scene on an unmarked motorcycle, joining the rest of the gang at a hideout in Kasagam. Moments after committing the heinous act, police in Kasagam reported seeing the vehicle and challenging the occupants who ran away. “On searching it, an AK47 (without a magazine) and a homemade pistol capable of firing were discovered alongside four mobile phones. Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been hired, and the rifle, which was analysed by ballistic experts at the DCI forensic lab, had been robbed or obtained from Uganda,” DCI reported. What will happen to Byron Billy Owuor Appearing before Winam Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court, the police asked and were granted 14 days to conclude the investigation. In the course of their probe, the police singled out the gang leader, identified as Robert Wakolo Okoth alias Michael Osama. The police launched another operation at Osama’s home near Rai Primary School, where they apprehended his 17-year-old brother, a suspected member of the gang. The police recovered numerous items from the house as they continued with investigations to find other members of the gang. “Discovered in the house were an AK47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62*39mm ammunition, 6 rounds of .38 special ammunition fired by pistols, five ID cards belonging to different persons, a Kenya Armed Forces Comrades Association card, a mobile phone and a green camouflage bag,” added the DCI. Ex-Gor Mahia player in custody Earlier, former footballer Collins ‘Gattuso’ Okoth was arrested following the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Lucky Summer. The girl’s body was discovered dumped behind their apartment, leading to suspicions of foul play. Okoth was detained at Pangani police station as detectives from the DCI commenced investigations into the murder. According to the police, Okoth lived in the same building as the deceased and became a suspect after a weapon suspected to be involved in the crime was found.
