An impeachment notice for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1. .A total of 291 members of Parliament signed in support of the motion, which cites promoting tribalism through his calls for Mt Kenya unity, abuse of office, and threatening President William Ruto, among other charges.  Who will be next DP if Gachagua is impeached? Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a vocal supporter of the impeachment, asserted that the president would select a replacement from the Mt Kenya region. He claimed that the only issue with the region lies with the deputy president, emphasising that the government has no problem with the region’s residents.

“There’s no doubt ‘murima’ is at the core of this government. No one has an issue with the majority of leaders from the mountain, save for one ill-behaved character. Even his replacement will surely come from the mountain. Sure bet,” he said. Kenyans react to Sudi’s claim This suggestion and the ongoing impeachment efforts have sparked various reactions from Kenyans. Sammy Kaihuri observed: “It is this kind of reckless utterances and political formations that derail development and set the country in electioneering mode which is unhealthy and unnecessary. You raise the political temperatures for no good reason, knowing too well what this could do for the nation. History will judge our Kenyan politicians very harshly.”

Kariuki Nganga reacted: “It’s not a must for us to be in government. You can choose a person from Turkana, West Pokot or another area to be the deputy after the impeachment.” George Waweru commented: “A heartfelt appreciation to the Members of Parliament who stood firmly with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during yesterday’s impeachment proceedings. Your unwavering support will forever be etched in the hearts of the people of Nyeri and the larger Mount Kenya region.” Kipz Chelule observed: “Yours is very personal and Kenyans know it. May God stand with our DP.” Hussein Barow argued: “Leave the deputy president to finish his term and stick to your … politics. The only thing … understands is destruction, and that’s exactly what you’re trying to do to the government he fought for.” James Thiongo replied: “Mt Kenya people are behind RG but there is life after impeachment it’s better to be in the opposition with respect than in government with madharau.”
