On Sunday, October 20, impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua addressed Kenyans regarding the sudden illness that led to his hospitalisation. Gachagua was removed from office on Thursday, October 17, after 56 senators found him guilty of five out of 11 charges brought against him by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse. After his ouster and discharge from the hospital, Gachagua stated that he still considers himself the deputy president, citing orders from judges in the Kirinyaga and Milimani Law Courts.
In response to his speech, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a vocal advocate for Gachagua’s removal, subtly urged him to seek the kingdom of God after losing his deputy president position by impeachment. “When the kingdom of the world rejects you, seek the kingdom of heaven because it is free,” Sudi advised. Some Kenyans criticised Sudi’s remarks, especially in light of Gachagua’s emotional speech, in which he linked his troubles to President William Ruto. How did Kenyans react to Sudi’s remarks? Abel Leo Mosiah stated: “Don’t think that you will live on the right side for eternity, power is transient!”
Anderson Werunga advised: “Don’t climb too high Mr. The fall will be mighty and noisy. The higher you’re placed the more humbly you should walk.” Maina Wachira said: “Power is transient, I am confident. In God we trust. Our God will pay for us. Machozi ya Pastor Dorcas hayaenda bure. H.E Riggy All the way. Justice will prevail. Political conmanship should end we only fear God.” Timothy lelmet OGW observed: “Lakini kwa team yako ya siasa uskie wanakupenda juu wewe ni first body, unajua kutusi opponents mpaka wanakaa square, jua they are setting you up for future failure.”
Henry Korir advised: “Do not draw God’s kingdom into dirt brother…The kingdom of God is not a joke; just fight your earthly, transient politics and leave the things of God alone.” Jenerali Aka Caicedo Mwenyewe remarked: “Only a fool can claim the heavenly kingdom is for free…you have to work hard for that kingdom while you’re still here.” Kiprotich Korir replied: “Hii Kenya si yenu bwana.” Esinyen Joyce stated: “Tunakupea wiki moja ,utakuja huku ukilia…” Hon David Murathe advised: “Sadly, someone think the position of the DP is by his discretion instead of it being a constitutional position.
Next time, we should have a separate ballot box for the DP position so that they are elected separately to enhance respect. A separate ballot box might also mean we can have a president and a DP from different political parties which will be OK because the DP position is constitutional and it is for the country just in case something happens to the President and not for the president to pick whom he wants to inheritance him in case something happens.” When will Kithure Kindiki be sworn in?
The outspoken lawmaker suggested that the deputy president nominee CS Kithure Kindiki will be sworn in on Tuesday, October 22. Sudi claimed that Kindiki’s nomination would reshape the country’s political landscape. According to him, if Gachagua had been allowed to continue being in office, his alleged tribal remarks would have led to civil war.
