President William Ruto’s youngest son, George Kimutai Ruto, made a sentimental return to Mang’u High School on Saturday, October 3, 2026, joining fellow alumni for the unveiling of a brand-new basketball court as the school marked its 100th anniversary. George Ruto visited his former school, Mang’u High School. George arrived dressed casually in a white T-shirt bearing the Mang’u name, keeping things low-key despite the occasion. He was accompanied by SportPesa CEO and MP Ronald Karauri, who he considers a mentor and who also attended the school. The pair toured the school grounds together, stopping at the institution’s Aviation Centre, where a teacher walked them through some of the training equipment on display. Beyond the formalities, George made time to interact with current students on the sports fields before addressing the student body. In his remarks, he spoke about resilience and the challenges that come with life after completing secondary school — themes clearly drawn from personal experience.George’s close relationship with Mang’u High School George enrolled at Mang’u High School in 2013 and sat his KCSE examinations in 2016, leaving with a B+ grade. During his four years there, he lived in the Archbishop Ndingi Mwana Nzeki dormitory and, by all accounts, kept entirely to himself. Former schoolmates described him as disciplined, calm and unusually quiet, someone who maintained a low profile even as his family’s name drew constant attention.
His time at Mang’u coincided with his father’s International Criminal Court case, a period that occasionally made life difficult for him. Former classmates recalled that George was sometimes teased because of the proceedings, yet he handled it with composure that left an impression on those around him. When his family came to pick him up, crowds of students would gather, drawn by the spectacle of the visit. He did not take part in school sports during his time there, which makes his appearance at a sports event all the more notable. The school’s Aviation Technology programme, however, planted an early seed. After finishing his A-levels, George went on to graduate from Strathmore University in 2021 before heading to the United Kingdom to pursue aviation studies. He is now a fully licensed commercial pilot. George shared moments from the visit on his Instagram Stories.
