Maureen Achieng’ Nyadida-Lukoye, wife of Prof Lukoye Atwoli, will be cremated on Thursday, September 17.
According to the family, a church service will be held at All Saints Cathedral at noon, followed by her cremation.
Maureen was the daughter-in-law of COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli and a mother of four sons, Alubala, Anyanje, Yimbo and Junior.
She was the daughter of Samwel Nyadida-Yimbo and the late Elizabeth Atieno Oure.
The family described her as a devoted wife and loving mother in the funeral announcement made following her death.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 19, at her home in Mulwanda Sub-location, Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega.
Maureen’s death was announced by her husband in an emotional message on Tuesday.
“I will struggle to deal with this. So long, my dear. So long,” Lukoye wrote.
A family member also confirmed her death to the Star, saying she had been battling cancer for about four years.
Maureen had previously spoken publicly about her battle with cancer and the support she received from her husband during the difficult period.
Lukoye, the firstborn son of Francis Atwoli, has built a career in medicine and academia, while the couple largely kept their family life away from the spotlight.
They occasionally shared family moments publicly, including celebrations and anniversaries.
Messages of condolence have since been shared by friends, colleagues and members of the public following Maureen’s death.
The family quoted 2 Timothy 4:7 in announcing her funeral arrangements: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
