West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has inaugurated new boards for four major county hospitals.
The move is aimed at strengthening healthcare management and improving services across the region.
The governor said the appointments mark another step towards achieving universal health coverage by ensuring residents have access to quality and efficient healthcare services.
The new boards will oversee Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, Kacheliba Subcounty Hospital, Chepareria Subcounty Hospital and Sigor Subcounty Hospital, the county’s main public health facilities, where the devolved government has continued to invest in infrastructure, equipment and staffing.
“Our target is to ensure the hospitals are well managed and have the capacity to provide quality services to our people,” Kachapin said during the inauguration ceremony in Kapenguria.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare management and said effective governance was critical to improving services.
Kachapin also cited the West Pokot Facility Improvement Fund Act as a key tool in supporting the upgrading of health facilities.
He assured residents the appointment of the new board members followed all the required legal procedures and said they had a responsibility to ensure county health facilities met the expected standards of service.
“Always put the interests of patients first. I encourage you to work closely with hospital management, healthcare workers and the department of health to address challenges, improve service delivery and ensure public resources are managed responsibly,” the governor said.
Kachapin said his administration would continue investing in healthcare infrastructure, modern medical equipment, essential supplies and a skilled workforce, while promoting sound governance and accountability in the sector.
Health executive Claire Parklea urged the new board members to exercise strict financial oversight and safeguard hospital resources to ensure efficiency.
The board members, who were gazetted on April 14, 2026, comprise nine members for each hospital.
The newly inaugurated board chairpersons are Charles Kamzee Alisoreng for Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, Moses Komole Lotimu for Chepareria Subcounty Hospital, Dominic Kapaw for Sigor Subcounty Hospital and Michael Makari for Kacheliba Subcounty Hospital.
