Safaricom PLC has announced a reduction in M-Pesa transaction charges for businesses, with new tariffs for Pochi la Biashara, Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods, and M-Pesa Business Till transfers rolling out in phases from August 2026. Source: Twitter The company said the revisions are intended to lower the cost of digital payments and support business growth across Kenya. “To make digital payments more affordable and support the growth of businesses across Kenya, Safaricom is introducing revised tariffs for Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods.” Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Changes The first phase, a 90-day promotional period running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, applies to Pochi la Biashara merchants. Transactions of up to KSh 200 are now free, doubling the previous threshold of KSh 100. The maximum charge for larger transactions has also been capped at a flat KSh 50 for any payment between KSh 2,501 and KSh 250,000, reduced from the earlier ceiling of KSh 108. Under the revised schedule, a customer paying KSh 10,000 to a Pochi merchant will incur a KSh 50 charge, down from KSh 90. Collections of up to KSh 500 are now free of charge, compared to the previous free threshold of KSh 200. Collections between KSh 201 and KSh 500, which previously attracted a 0.55% fee, will no longer carry any cost.
The 0.55% fee continues to apply to collections between KSh 501 and KSh 36,363, while amounts above KSh 36,363 remain capped at KSh 200. For Pay to Mobile transfers, a transaction between KSh 101 and KSh 500 will now cost KSh 4, down from KSh 7. Transfers between KSh 10,001 and KSh 15,000 drop to KSh 50 from KSh 100, while the maximum charge on transfers above KSh 45,000 falls from KSh 108 to KSh 54. For Pay to PayBill transfers, charges between KSh 101 and KSh 500 fall to KSh 3 from KSh 5, and transfers between KSh 501 and KSh 1,000 will cost KSh 5, halved from the previous KSh 10.
