Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has dismissed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s growing political profile, describing him as “a balloon” created by former President Uhuru Kenyatta after the latter allegedly abandoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during an interview with TV47 on TV47 Prime hosted by Debarl Inea on Wednesday, July 22, Kaluma claimed Sifuna’s recent prominence lacks political substance and should not concern President William Ruto’s allies.
“Sifuna is a balloon created by Uhuru Kenyatta after dropping Matiang’i. He is a balloon being puffed up without any political weight or content. We are least bothered by Sifuna,” Kaluma said.
The legislator went on to suggest that Kenyatta is quietly working in President Ruto’s favour despite speculation over his political alignment.
“I think Uhuru is working for President William Ruto and I wish he continues that way,” he said.
Kaluma also expressed confidence that President Ruto would comfortably secure re-election, predicting that the Head of State would win by a wide margin.
“President Ruto will get 75 per cent of the votes in this country,” he stated.
Kaluma’s remarks come amid heightened political debate over the opposition’s possible presidential lineup ahead of the next general election, with Sifuna’s name increasingly featuring in national political discussions.
During the same interview, Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu weighed in on the shifting political landscape, arguing that Matiang’i’s standing within opposition politics appears to have diminished.
“Matiang’i was a potential running mate, but he seems to have been overtaken by Sifuna,” Mulu observed.
The legislator also shifted focus to the country’s economic future, saying Kenya must confront key structural challenges if it hopes to realise the ambitions of Vision 2030.
“Vision 2030’s aim was to move Kenya from a low-income country to a middle-level one. There are fundamental issues we must address as a nation. With the level of public debt where we are today, are we able to achieve that first-class status?” he posed.
