Kenyan comedian MCA Tricky has traded the spotlight of the comedy stage for the lecture halls of Germany. The popular entertainer, known for his witty sets and street-smart persona, recently moved to Europe to further his education. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechatronics.
This move comes at a time when his career in Kenya is still very successful. Many fans wondered why he would leave his comedic fame behind. Tricky addressed these questions through his social media platforms. He shared his motivations for choosing a path in engineering while maintaining his artistic roots.
A Future-Proof Move
In a post shared with his followers, Tricky explained that his decision was driven by the rapid pace of global change. He noted that he did not want to be left behind as the world evolves.
“Kwani Ulienda Germany kufanya?? Answer is in Slide 2. The world is changing faster than ever, and I refused to watch it change from my sidelines. That’s why I crossed continental borders to get my MSc Mechatronics here in Germany,” he stated.
He further clarified that this academic pursuit is not an end to his comedy career. Instead, it is a way to secure his long-term prospects. He wrote that he moved to Germany “not to replace my artistic gift, but to strengthen my future.”
Addressing the Critics
Not all reactions to his move have been positive. Some social media critics have suggested that advanced degrees are easily acquired or even bought. Tricky used a video post to directly address these claims.
He spoke about content creators who dismiss the hard work involved in higher education. He mentioned those who say, “You just go, you pay, you are given”. To these critics, Tricky had a direct challenge. He responded by saying, “Okay, pay for yours and be given.”
To prove his dedication, the comedian has been sharing glimpses of his rigorous study routine. His posts show him balancing complex technical coursework with his life abroad. This serves as a rebuttal to those claiming that a Master’s degree is a simple transaction.
Intelligence and Creativity as Partners
Tricky’s academic background is already rooted in technical fields. Before moving to Germany, he completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Kenyatta University in Kenya.
He believes that his education and his talent work together rather than against each other. He uses the hashtag #SwordbothSides to represent this duality.
“Degrees open doors while talent opens hearts and circles,”Tricky explained. He aims to bridge the gap between the arts and sciences. He stated that his goal is “proving that intelligence and creativity are not rivals but partners.”
