Teen girl’s body found wrapped in mosquito net, hands and legs tied, in Kakamega river

Detectives in Khwisero Sub-County, Kakamega County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified teenage girl whose body was found floating in River Esava.

The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday in Eshitimba Village, Khushiku Sub-location, Mulwanda Location, after members of the public spotted what appeared to be a human body in the river and alerted police.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was an unidentified female juvenile believed to be about 16 years old. Her body was found wrapped in a mosquito net, with both her hands and legs tied.

Police said they also observed what appeared to be stab wounds on the neck and below the left arm, prompting investigators to treat the death as suspicious.

Crime scene investigators photographed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Butere Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it will await identification and a post-mortem examination.

Detectives have opened a murder inquiry to establish the girl’s identity, determine the circumstances surrounding her death, and identify any person who may have been involved.

Elsewhere, police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in the Ngong River in Nairobi’s Kayole area.

The incident was reported in the Mathioya Totobora section of the river, prompting officers from Soweto Police Station, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kayole, and crime scene investigators to visit the scene.

Police recovered the body of an African man believed to be about 30 years old from the riverbank.

According to investigators, no identification documents were recovered from the deceased, and there were no visible external injuries.

However, the body had already begun decomposing and was emitting a foul smell, suggesting it may have been in the water for some time.

After the scene was processed and documented, the body was moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it will await identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Detectives from DCI Kayole have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old man died after he was reportedly electrocuted near an electric fence close to the shores of Masinga Dam in Masinga Sub-County, Machakos County.

The incident was reported to Ekalakala Police Station at about 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday after a caretaker informed the property owner that a person had been found unresponsive near the electric fence.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Andrew Mutinda Ndunda lying on the ground near the fence in a supine position. Officers said the deceased had no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed, photographed and documented before the body was moved to Mbaku Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of the suspected electrocution, with the case pending under inquiry (PUI).
