Young Boy Sido: Summertides Videos Could Help in Dowry Talks

Content creator Young Boy Sido has joined the growing online conversation surrounding the viral videos from the Summertides festival, offering a humorous take that has generated fresh debate across social media.

His comments come as clips recorded during the event continue to circulate online, prompting discussions about youth culture, privacy and the long-term impact of digital footprints.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Sido joked that the footage should continue circulating because it could prove useful during future dowry negotiations.

“Hizo video za Summertides ziiendele tu kukuja. Zikuje kwa wingi, zikam, zikam.”

Linking viral videos to dowry negotiations

Sido humorously suggested that families could one day rely on the videos when discussing bride price, commonly referred to as dowry or mahari in many Kenyan communities.

“Tutazitumia hapa mbeleni siku za kuitisha dowry. Siku ya kupeleka mahari hizo video zitasaidia sana.”

He continued the joke by saying that if a bride’s family requested two cows, the existence of such videos could become a bargaining tool.

“Wakiitisha ng’ombe mbili, tunaleta ndama nusu.”

The remarks were delivered in a light-hearted tone and have since attracted thousands of reactions, with many social media users responding through jokes, memes and differing opinions.

Viral clips continue to dominate online discussions.

The Summertides festival has remained a trending topic in Kenya following the widespread circulation of videos recorded by attendees.
Some clips have attracted criticism over conduct at the event, while others have reignited conversations about consent, privacy and the ease with which personal moments can be shared online.
The discussion has also drawn reactions from public figures, content creators and government officials, reflecting broader concerns about social media culture and the responsibilities that come with recording public events.

A conversation beyond humour

Although Sido’s comments were framed as comedy, they contribute to a wider national conversation that has emerged following the festival.

“Hizo videsa ziendelee kutokelezea. Mwenye pia anazituma aendelee kuzituma. Zitatuokolea mahali mtu wangu.”
