Kibe Accepts Salasya’s Boxing Challenge at Vurugu 3

Former Radio Presenter Andrew Kibe has officially accepted Mumias East MP Peter Salasya’s challenge to fight at the upcoming Vurugu 3 celebrity boxing event, signalling a new chapter in their months-long online rivalry.

Kibe made the announcement in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, July 1, telling his followers that he was ready to face the legislator in the ring later this year. However, he insisted that Salasya must first sign a legally binding agreement before he begins training.

“I’ve decided to accept Ka Salasya’s offer to whoop his ass. We do this in December to give me time to train, but only after he signs makalatas ndiyo naanza training.”

The former radio presenter added that he wanted signed documents first to avoid any last-minute changes before the highly anticipated contest.

How the challenge began

The proposed bout stems from months of public exchanges between Kibe and Salasya on social media. Kibe has repeatedly criticised the MP’s political style, public appearances and lifestyle during his online shows, while Salasya has accused Kibe of thriving on controversy to remain relevant.

Last week, Salasya publicly challenged Kibe to face him during Obinna quickly embraced the proposal, promising to stage the fight if Kibe agreed to participate.

“Your wish is my command. Talk to him to get him to accept the challenge. We start by putting KSh2 million in hard cash. I’m sure it can get to KSh5 million.”

Obinna also joked that Salasya did not need the prize money as much as his opponent, further fuelling online discussion about the proposed showdown.

Vurugu 3 gathering momentum

The acceptance by Kibe significantly boosts the chances of the fight becoming the headline attraction at Vurugu 3, which is expected to be held in December 2026.
Celebrity boxing has grown in popularity in Kenya, with Vurugu events bringing together politicians, musicians, influencers and digital creators for exhibition bouts that attract large online audiences.
Kibe’s acceptance quickly sparked reactions from Facebook users, many expressing excitement while others questioned whether the fight would eventually happen.
Some of the comments included:
Steve Maina: “Finally! We’ve been waiting for this. December can’t come soon enough.”
Mercy Wanjiru: “Salasya asked for it. Now let’s see if both of them actually sign the contract.”
Kevin Otieno: “This is the biggest fight Vurugu 3 could ever organise. I’ll definitely watch it.”
Brian Mwangi: “No backing out now. We want action, not more social media exchanges.”
Faith Chebet: “The paperwork condition makes sense. Let’s make it official first.”
