A security guard was killed and another seriously injured after they were attacked by three armed assailants while on duty at a cemetery along the Kisumu–Busia Highway in Kisumu County.
Police said the incident was reported at about 4:32 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The assailants reportedly gained entry into the cemetery by jumping over the gate before finding the two guards on duty.
The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Kelvin Samson Odhiambo, who sustained fatal injuries, including a deep cut to the lower jaw and an injury to the left eye believed to have been caused by a blunt object.
His colleague, a 22-year-old man, escaped despite sustaining four deep cuts to the head and shoulder.
He was rushed to Jalaram Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police officers, accompanied by crime scene personnel, processed and documented the scene before moving the body to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of those involved and the motive behind the killing.
Elsewhere, police in Siaya County have launched investigations after the body of a Ugandan national was found in a thicket along the Wagusu–Abimbo Road in Bondo Sub-County.
Officers visited the scene at Wagusu Village in West Migwena Sub-location, Nyang’oma Location, where they found the body of a middle-aged man identified as Moses, a Ugandan national who worked as a herder at the home of Benard Ochieng.
Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased was last seen alive on Saturday by his employer before he was reported missing.
Police said the body had multiple deep cut wounds to the head, indicating he may have been attacked with a sharp object.
The scene was processed, and the body was moved to Bondo Sub-County Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, including the motive and those responsible.
Meanwhile, police in Machakos County are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 50-year-old man whose skeletal remains were discovered in a bush in the Kamulu area.
According to police, the discovery was reported on Monday after a herder spotted what appeared to be a human skull near a footpath passing through a plot in the Kambi area.
Police visited the scene and confirmed the skull was human. About 30 metres away, they recovered the rest of the skeletal remains concealed in nearby bushes.
The remains were identified by his brother as those of 50-year-old Charles Mbatha Muasya.
The family told investigators that the deceased had been living alone in a makeshift structure built on a tree along the banks of the Athi River and had reportedly been struggling with mental illness. They said he was last seen at the end of May.
Police processed the scene before transferring the skeletal remains to Mama Lucy Mortuary, where they will undergo a post-mortem examination as investigations into the cause of death continue.
