“I Feel in My Spirit” — Rachel Ruto Says As She Calls for Prayer for The Months of June and July

Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto drew attention during the National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on May 27, 2026.

The women leaders-only gathering served as the official precursor to the 23rd annual National Prayer Breakfast and adopted the theme “Forgiveness and Reconciliation” amid growing political tensions in the country. Attendees observed an all-white dress code, symbolising purity and solemnity for the occasion.

Rachel Ruto appeared in an all-white outfit featuring patterned sleeves, paired with braided hair and full-face makeup as she addressed hundreds of women leaders attending the event.

Calls for Prayer Ahead of June and July

While addressing the congregation, Rachel Ruto said she felt compelled to urge Kenyans to pray for the months of June and July.

“I feel in my spirit that we need to take time and pray for the months of June and July… I know that it is only prayer that can change things,” she said.

The First Lady referenced recent periods of political tension and youth-led protests witnessed during the same months in previous years, calling on women to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the country.

She encouraged women leaders, churches, and families to dedicate time to prayer and fasting.

Scripture Reference During Address

Rachel anchored her appeal on Jeremiah 29:7, urging Kenyans to pray for peace in the country.

“The Bible in the book of Jeremiah 29:7 says pray for the peace of the city. I want us to have that verse as our anchor verse as we go into June and July,” she said.

She added: “We don’t have another nation; this is our nation… As the mother of the nation, allow me to request the entire nation to pray… this month of June and July is going to be crucial.”

Kenyans React Online

Her remarks quickly sparked debate across social media platforms, with Kenyans sharing mixed reactions to her call for national prayers.

Some supported the First Lady’s message and praised her for encouraging unity and spiritual reflection during a tense political season.

One user wrote: “Mama Rachel anasema ukweli. June na July huwa na tension mingi Kenya. Prayer is important.”

Another commented: “She always carries herself with grace. We need prayers as a country.”

Others questioned whether the message hinted at fears of possible unrest in the coming months.

“What does she know that wananchi don’t know?” one user asked.

Another added: “Prayer is good, but viongozi also need to address the cost of living and the issues affecting young people.”

Some users also referenced last year’s youth-led demonstrations, saying the country needed both peace efforts and accountability from leaders.

“Prayers alone are not enough without action,” another comment read.
