Migori Youth maintained their lead at the top of the National Super League log after edging Mully Children’s Family (MCF) 2-1 in a tough encounter played at Awendo Green Stadium on Wednesday.
The victory saw Migori Youth move to 74 points, significantly boosting their chances of qualifying for the SportPesa Premier League next season. Second-placed Mombasa United and 3K FC failed to close the gap on the leaders after battling to a barren draw at Mbaraki Sports Club.
The result pushed Mombasa United to 72 points while 3K FC moved to 70 points. Mombasa United maintained their unbeaten home record this season, while 3K FC extended their unbeaten run under coach Nicodemus Omasete.
However, the draw means 3K FC have now gone two matches without a win for the first time since Omasete took charge in February. Despite the setback, Omasete remains confident and insists his focus is firmly on the remaining three matches of the season.
With three games left to play, Migori Youth, Mombasa United and 3K FC remain favourites to secure the three available SportPesa Premier League promotion slots. Migori Youth will face Kisumu All Stars, Equity Bank and 3K FC in their final fixtures, while Mombasa United are set to play Luanda Villa, Nzoia Sugar and Naivas FC.
3K FC, meanwhile, face a difficult run-in against former FKF Premier League side FC Talanta, Mwatate United and Migori Youth. Elsewhere, Equity Bank FC kept pressure on the top three after recording a convincing 3-0 win over Fortune Sacco at Kianyaga Stadium in Mwea, Kirinyaga County. The Bankers moved to 68 points on the standings.
The National Super League continues on Thursday with attention shifting to the relegation battle. Bottom-placed Mwatate United will host Naivas FC at Wundanyi Stadium, while another relegation-threatened side, Kabati Youth, will welcome Luanda Villa at SportPesa Arena in Murang’a.
Elsewhere, Soy United will host Kisumu All Stars at Eldoret Showground, while Darajani Gogo will entertain Michael Oluga Foundation Academy at Gems Cambridge in Karen, Nairobi.
