Kenyan radio personality and talent manager Mwalimu Rachel has opened up about the qualities she values in relationships, saying emotional maturity, gentleness and stability matter more to her than age alone.
Speaking during a recent interview with broadcaster Alex Mwakideu, Mwalimu Rachel reflected on the kind of partner she would prefer and the environment in which she feels she performs best.
According to the radio personality, maturity is not simply about being older.
“I would like a mature man, and yes, I know it’s not the only qualifier because there are people who are 50 or 60 but still have childish behaviour or do not know how to behave or be with a woman.”
Beyond Age: “Do Your Inner Work”
Mwalimu Rachel explained that, for her, true maturity comes from self-awareness and personal development.
She described a mature partner as someone who has taken time to understand themselves, recognise their weaknesses and actively work towards becoming better.
“I am talking about age in terms of you have done your inner work, you have taken time to know yourself, understand where you have shortcomings and what you can do to work on yourself.”
She also stressed the importance of emotional intelligence in relationships, saying women deserve care, affection and intentional love.
“Women are to be treated in a certain way, to be loved in a certain way.”
According to her, genuine affection should not be held back by fear of public opinion or social expectations around masculinity.
“I am not afraid to be in that frame of mind of loving a woman without pretending to worry about what the boys will think.”

Appreciation for Gentle and Intentional Men
The radio host added that she admires men who display gentleness and kindness in the way they interact with their partners.
She pointed to examples of what she described as “dignified gentlemen” whose actions stand out through simple but thoughtful treatment of their loved ones.
“I have seen some of these really dignified gentlemen and even the way they would treat their ladies like watoto wadogo, and they are very gentle.”
