Kenyan comedian and content creator Eunice Mammito has announced a temporary hiatus from social media. In a message posted to her Instagram stories, the entertainer revealed she is stepping back from the digital spotlight to focus on personal matters.
The announcement, which initially left many followers uncertain whether it was a satirical post, follows a period of intense public discourse in Kenya. Mammito cited a combination of the country’s current economic climate and the recent sporting developments as reasons for her decision.
A “Double Burden” of Sport and Economics
In her public announcement, Mammito described her current situation as overwhelming. She pointedly linked her struggle to the rising cost of living, specifically noting the impact of high fuel prices.

“I’ll be offline for a while, as I’m dealing with a lot currently. As a Kenyan who is facing high fuel prices and also a family that supports Manchester United, it’s not an easy time for my family and me!” Mammito said via Instagram.
The announcement surfaced just as Arsenal Football Club clinched the English Premier League title, a victory that has triggered a wave of celebratory social media content.
The Arsenal-Manchester United Rivalry
The rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester United is one of the most storied in English football. Arsenal’s recent title win—their first in 22 years—has seen fans flood social media with celebratory messages, often targeting supporters of rival clubs.
As a self-identified Manchester United supporter, Mammito’s “offline” status reflects the light-hearted yet often pointed “banter” occurring online between these rival fanbases.
While the online football community continues to debate the victory, Mammito’s post serves as a reminder of the lighter, more personal side of sports fandom in a digital age.
Strained Nation
Beyond football, Kenya is currently navigating a significant economic challenge. The nation this week found itself in the grip of a two-day nationwide matatu (public transport) strike on Monday and Tuesday.
This protest was triggered by soaring fuel prices, which have placed substantial pressure on both commuters and transport operators.
The transport sector was severely disrupted, with many services grounded as operators protest the increased levies and fuel costs. Reports suggest that some areas are facing a seven-day suspension of services as negotiations continue.

A Call for Privacy
Mammito’s message ended with a request for space as she manages these challenges. Despite the comedic career that has made her a household name, she appears to be prioritising her mental well-being and family life during this difficult period.
“I am having nightmares. We ask for privacy and prayers during these hard times, as we deal with our matters privately.”
