Samuel Muchina Nyagah will fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flag in the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after emerging victorious in a tightly contested party nomination exercise held on Friday.
Nyagah received his provisional certificate after clinching the UDA ticket.
He secured 3,221 votes to clinch the ticket ahead of George Wambugu Kanuri, who garnered 3,077 votes in the primaries that attracted 10 aspirants seeking the ruling party’s endorsement.
The results were announced at Mumbi Primary School, where National Elections Board member Jimmy Kahindi handed Nyagah the nomination certificate.
Other candidates in the race included Peter Njoroge Mugo, who received 1,049 votes, and Mary Nyokabi Kamau, who garnered 406 votes.
Peter Chuchu Njuguna got 158 votes, while Maina Kiambati received 96.
Meanwhile, Joseph Ndirangu garnered 90 votes, Ezekiah Kamweru got 66, Daniel Ndungu received 52, while Stanley Mwangi trailed with 43 votes.
In a statement following the exercise, UDA congratulated Nyagah on winning the nomination and wished him success.
“Congratulations, Samuel Muchina Nyagah, on your nomination to carry the UDA flag for the Ol Kalou by-election scheduled for Thursday, 16th July 2026,” the party said.
The mini-poll has attracted significant political attention in Nyandarua county as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The nomination exercise came after DP Kithure Kindiki earlier met all the aspirants at his Karen office and urged them to consider consensus-building in order to avoid a divisive contest.
Kindiki encouraged the candidates to unite behind a single aspirant who would represent the party in the by-election.
Party chairperson Cecily Mbarire, on her part, said the nominations will be free, fair, verifiable, and transparent, in line with the party’s internal processes.
“We have agreed to have a free and fair party nomination at a later date that will be communicated,” she said, adding that the party will sponsor a candidate in the by-election.
UDA said its Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee would remain on standby to receive and determine any complaints arising from the exercise.
“The party’s Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee will be on standby to receive and determine complaints arising from the Ol Kalou parliamentary nominations,” the party said.
The move is aimed at ensuring any disputes are resolved internally and in accordance with party rules before the by-election campaign officially begins.
The seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament David Kiaraho.
